WELCOME TO IPSWICH FIELD ARCHERY CLUB
The IFAC club shoot is held monthly and is based on a pretend hunting scenario. The course consists of twenty realistic animal targets set in a natural bush setting. This aspect makes any shoot realistic, interesting and extremely challenging.
Targets are set at distances, varying from 20 yards (Cubs) to 50 yards (Master Senior Class). The course is usually shot using one arrow per 3D target. IFAC is flexible when it comes to club shoots and is happy for the more experienced and confident archer to progress to the more difficult shots and those not so confident or experienced can choose their marker to shoot from.
OUR AIMS
Ipswich Field Archery Club (IFAC) aims to provide their club members and fellow guest archers with a high quality venue.
IFAC encourages and promotes to archers of all ages and proficiencies good sportsmanship and social behaviour which is beneficial to the great sport of archery.
As a maturing club, IFAC aims to promote and foster the sport of archery to novice and potential club members.
IFAC shoots Field Archery which sees the archer outdoors in mock natural scenarios. This involves the archer shooting 3D (three dimensional) targets.
As the club evolves other styles of archery shall be considered as requested by IFAC members.
The Ipswich Field Archery Club is a not-for-profit group and all funds from memberships go to assisting us in maintaining the grounds, repairing targets and general repair and maintenance of the club equipment.

At a normal club shoot 40 targets would be shot, one arrow per target. In 3DAAA sanctioned shoots, a total of 50 targets over two days. Targets vary in sizes from a small fox to a large moose or Buffalo, and all have visible score zones. Highest score wins.
The club has practice butts in place seven days a week, set up for you to shoot at any time during the day. Club members (only) are welcome to come to the club at any time. We hold a club shoot (40 targets in 1 day) approximately once a month as well as 2 major tournaments a year
Within South East Queensland, NSW and Victoria there are many archery clubs also associated with 3DAAA. WELCOME TO MOUNT PETRIE BOWMEN
Mount Petrie Bowmen is an incorporated, not-for-profit, volunteer managed community target archery club. We are affiliated to Archery Australia, the national target archery governing body. We shoot the style of archery that you might have seen at the Olympics. We are not oriented to hunting or 3D field shooting.
We shoot four different archery disciplines – target (outdoor & indoor), field and clout. We offer an Archery Certificate Course for aspiring archers, Come & Try and Kids Holiday Courses if you just want to have a go, and special events for companies, schools, family and social groups.
Getting started in archery is easy. We hold regular courses for beginners with qualified coaches and safe modern equipment.
We offer an inexpensive opportunity for kids aged 10 to 17. They’ll learn basic archery technique in a safe environment led by qualified coaches. The fee covers equipment hire, access to the venue and insurance.
A modest Clubhouse and canteen with ample communal seating rounds out the facility. We have a full calendar of events throughout the year, with Club, state and national level competition opportunities.
The outdoor range is 100 x 130sqm and incorporates a clout pad. The shooting line boasts an 86m sun shade for which we gratefully acknowledge the support of a Get Playing grant from the Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation to assist with the construction of this significant structure.
We are especially proud of our disability supportive environment that provides a network of ‘to standard’ pathways permitting continuous wheelchair access to the outdoor range with its stable shooting line, and the sealed inner car park, workshop, club house, communal areas, indoor hall and toilets. This work has been supported by funding from Sports Australia and the Brisbane City Council Access and Inclusion Community Partnership Program.
We are also fortunate in having easy access to an adjacent 24 lane field course on a lease held by our state governing body, South Queensland Archery Society.
Archery Disciplines
Target – Outdoor
Target archery is shot outdoor on most Saturdays on the Hannay Range at distances from 20m to 90m depending on your age division and bow type. We offer a variety of shoots throughout the year and these shoots vary each week. Sometimes it might be 90 arrows at a single distance. Another might be 144 arrows at four different distances. We always cater for new members by offering an achievable shorter distance such as 20m or 30m.
Target – Indoor
As it says, indoor archery is shot in our indoor shooting hall. Typically, 60 arrows are shot at either 18m or 25m. Evening shoots are held twice a week.
Clout
Clout is long range archery having its roots back in medieval warfare when archers would lob their arrows onto advancing armies. Thankfully, we don’t need to worry about advancing armies any more. Clout is shot at a number of distances into a 15m wide target laid out on the ground with the centre of the target marked by a clout – a foam inverted triangle. Small coloured flags delineate the rings of the target. The range is up to 180m for modern bows with shorter distances being used for other equipment and age divisions.
Field
Field archery involves shooting at targets placed on a field course laid out through the natural terrain adjacent to our facility. We have convenient access to a course on a lease held by our state governing body, South Queensland Archery Society. Targets are shot at various distances and the size of the target varies with the distance that the target is set away from the archer.
Shooting hours can vary depending on the requirements of the Club Shooting Calendar.
Saturday – Club Day
Both the indoor hall and outdoor range are open from 9.00am until the afternoon shoot concludes, usually mid-afternoon..
Monday Night
The indoor hall is open for private practice from about 5.00pm to 7.00pm, depending on the turn-out – MPB Club members only.
Tuesday & Thursday Evening
The indoor hall is open from 6.00pm until the conclusion of the official shoot at about 8.45pm – refer to restrictions for visitors.
Sunday to Friday
The outdoor range is open for private practice during daylight hours – MPB Club members only. As the range is not supervised, under 18yo members must not be left at the range without adult supervision.
Coaching
As a volunteer based Club, coaching is included in your membership.
First Step – Indoor Coaching
On most Saturday mornings in the indoor hall we offer coaching for new members who are still consolidating their technique. But, sooner or later, we will send you outside to the more challenging world of the Roo Shoot – read on.
Second Step – the Roo Shoot
The Roo Shoot is an unofficial 36 arrow scored coaching shoot where you will be challenged to attempt increasing distances, usually starting at 20m, which is only 2m more than what you will have finished off at in the indoor hall at the Archery Certificate Course. This is where you will learn shoot etiquette and the very important skill of how to score. This is a necessary step to being able to fully participate in Club shoots.
Third Step – Higher Level Options
Our regional governing body, South Queensland Archery Society, runs a development program for more advanced archers as well as coaching clinics. Individual coaches in the Club can be approached to establish a more direct coaching arrangement.
